Our Senior Debating Society is celebrating another incredible success after winning the Hartland International Debating Competition.

This competition is an online international debating event that brings together students from around the world. Twenty schools took part in the first round, including Brighton College as a fellow British-based school, and six progressed to the semi-finals, with two of those including Worth reaching the senior final.

In the final on Wednesday, our students beat the Hartland International School in Dubai – the school which runs the competition. The debate was of a very high quality and was judged by two university professors.

Our students were in proposition with the motion: The house believes that the individual governments of a country should take ownership of the censorship of social media platforms.

The final of a Junior competition, which Worth did not enter, was held simultaneously. Ellen Connell, teacher of English at Hartland International School, said of the two finals: “It was an absolute pleasure to listen to these debates. The quality of arguments and teams seem to improve every year and the judges (and me) were blown away by all four teams.”

This latest success follows Worth winning a national competition, the Ethics Cup, in 2022. This was the first time the School has taken part in this competition.

Well done to all involved.
