Worth School is delighted to have been named among the top cricketing schools in Britain for a third year in succession.

The Cricketer, the world’s oldest and best-selling cricket magazine, has revealed its Schools Guide 2021 naming the top 100 cricket schools based on the standard of coaching, facilities, fixtures programmes and the school’s commitment to cricket in the curriculum.

A record number of schools and colleges across the country put forward submissions to be included and Worth was chosen within the top 100 by a judging panel who used an exhaustive set of criteria, including looking at how schools kept the game alive during the ongoing pandemic.

Cricket coaching at Worth is delivered by Mr Raj Chaudhuri, a former professional cricketer and Level 4 coach who has coached county programmes, academy sides, age group squads and at ICC international tournaments.

The School runs eight representative sides and two academies where the skills of elite players are developed. The programme encourages boys and girls alike to become better players and we are proud of the number of Worth players who are currently in county and representative sides. We also have excellent facilities including indoor and outdoor nets, a number of bowling machines, a nursery in the Summer Term and a fantastic 1st XI wicket which is used by the county.

Each year the 1st XI, which includes girls and boys, enjoy a highly-regarded fixture programme with games, among others, against an MCC XI and Sussex Martlets. In their fixtures during the Autumn Term 2020 Worth lost only one of seven games, including wins against sides from Sussex League clubs Horsham and East Grinstead.

Mr Chaudhuri said: “We are dedicated to providing the best possible cricket programme for boys and girls at Worth and the School is proud to receive this recognition. Cricket at Worth has been moving in a really positive direction, year on year for the last few years, and it is a great for the excellence of our programme to be acknowledged in this way.”

The Cricketer Schools Guide will be included as a prestigious 148-page supplement accompanying the December issue of The Cricketer which is available on the newsstand from tomorrow (27 November). As well as appearing in print alongside the world’s No.1 cricket magazine, the guide will be made available on The Cricketer website from Tuesday 15 December at www.thecricketer.com
