The high standard of music at Worth was praised after drummer Eddie Blaker-Finch was crowned as Worth Musician of the Year 2024.

Four students contested our annual Worth Musician of the Year final last Friday in the Whitehead Room, which was the original music room of the Cowdray estate.

The finalists included one playing clarinet, one playing flute, one singing and one playing drums. They provided a compelling evening of music, giving our guest judge an incredibly tough decision to make.

Our visiting judge was Eamonn Dougan, whose credits include associate conductor for ‘The Sixteen’ and principal guest conductor for Britain's National Youth Choir.

Mr Dougan said: “What a great way to spend an evening: to sit down and be serenaded like that. With four exceptionally talented students, four such different disciplines, it was so heartening to see such a high level of achievement.”

Winner Eddie, a Year 10 student, played a drum kit medley of three 1970s pop songs – Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits, September by Earth, Wind and Fire, plus We are the Champions by Queen.

Congratulations to Eddie and well done to all four finalists.

This Saturday our Summer Concert will take place as part of Speech Day, which is one of the ‘Three Peaks of Worth’ along with our September Welcome Festival and Christmas Cheer.
