Worth cricketer picked for Scotland

Huge congratulations to Worth 1st XI cricketer Daniel Burton who has been selected for the Scotland U19 cricket squad for the season ahead.

Bowler Daniel qualifies for Scotland as he was born in Edinburgh. He attended trials in March and impressed sufficiently to be chosen for the squad.

Daniel is also part of the Sussex Pathway and recently featured in a warm-up game between Sussex and Kent. He was loaned out to Kent for the day as Sussex wanted to face a left-arm seam bowler and he bowled 5 overs for 23 runs which is pretty good for a First Class standard game.

This is now his third season playing for Worth’s 1st XI and this year he will be captain in the longer format of the game. Head of Cricket Mr Raj Chaudhuri said: “This is a reward for Daniel’s resilience and work ethic. He was left out of the Pathway at 11 but worked hard and improved his game to get back to where he is now.”

This is the latest success story for cricket at Worth. Last year’s 1st XI captain George McLoughlin earned a place in the Surrey Academy while former 1st XI cricketer Claudie Cooper now plays for Yorkshire County Cricket Club women and was recently bought by Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred auction.

Also, in November Worth was named in The Cricketer magazine’s list of top cricket schools in the UK for an eighth year in succession.

The new cricket season starts at Worth on Saturday.
