Voluntary service awards for students

Tue, May 20th, 2025
Worth School

Worth acknowledged the efforts of a number of students this week with the presentation of voluntary service half colours and colours.

Service is one of the six key values which are embedded in everyday life at the School and we believe these values are fundamental to the formation of who we become.

Students at Worth have an exceptional record of service in various forms and it was lovely to recognise certain students in assembly this week.

Social outreach coordinator Mr Chris Wyles spoke about what it is to be a Worthian before asking Head Master Mr Stuart McPherson to make the presentations.

Mr Wyles said: “Fifteen years ago I remember the Head Boy, Nick Elvidge, giving a speech about what it meant to be a Worthian. He said that a true Worthian was concerned more with who they were, than what they were. The ‘what’ of a person was of little consequence. Their job title, their surname, the car they drove, the holidays they went on, all less valuable than their ‘who’.

“A Worthian has always been more concerned with the character of a person, who they care for, how they work for the good of the community, their humility and their service. This has always been the Worth way, to raise up servant hearted members of society.”

One student, Anna (not pictured), received full colours in assembly while a further 12 students were awarded half colours. Some of them appear in our pictures.

Congratulations to all recipients of awards.
