There's so much choice

Pupils will have the opportunity to start getting into the mood for Christmas with a trip to see Glow Wild at Wakehurst being just one feature of another packed weekend programme.

This weekend’s programme also includes a cinema and sports evening, an ice disco at Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex, a Year 13 Social and a new choice of Saturday morning activities, clubs and study options.

The weekend for some begins with 70 Year 11 pupils heading off on Friday afternoon for a trip to see ‘An Inspector Calls’ at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford. Back at Worth, we have the latest speaker in our Spencer Lecture Series at 5.30pm with this week’s guest being artist Andrew Wildman who will be talking about ‘The Creative Life’.

Also on Friday evening, there will be a movie and sports evening, with a film being shown in the Performing Arts Centre while badminton and volleyball will be on offer in the Sports Hall and Gym 1.

On Saturday morning a Python Programming Club, Natural History Club, dodgeball and a ten pin bowling trip to Crawley are among the new options added to a programme which already includes SCUBA diving, The Vesalius Society for those interested in biology, our media group Worth Watching, World Scholar’s Cup, swimming at the K2 Centre in Crawley and fitness sessions for both boys and girls.

There are lots study options for those wishing to enhance their learning or put in extra work ahead of mock exams, with academic support classes for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, GCSE Maths, French, Spanish and Religious Studies, as well as general supervised study, UCAS/A Level/IB specific activities, independent study for Art and Music practice.

There is also an opportunity to volunteer at local charity shops or online, including Zooniverse which provides the chance to get involved with more than 50 active citizen science projects. Rugby and hockey fixtures will also be taking place – see fixtures below – and members of the Model United Nations Society will be taking part in an MUN Conference at Lingfield College.

Later on Saturday, pupils in Years 9 to 12 can go to an ice disco at Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex's ice skating rink. For our oldest students there is a Year 13 Social where they can come in fancy dress with the theme being movie and literary stars.

On Sunday, pupils from all year groups can get into the festive spirit by going to Glow Wild, which is Wakehurst’s lantern trail featuring a never-before-seen route, brand new installations and packed full of other surprises. As darkness falls, the gardens are brought to life with beautifully hand-crafted festive lanterns and captivating light installations created by leading artists. The weekend will then close with Mass in the Abbey Church at 8pm.

Our weekends programme is open to both boarders and day pupils and underlines our commitment to being a 7-day-a-week boarding school.
