Year 10 students showed their creative skills during Activity Week when they became filmmakers for the day with a visit from the One Day Film School.
Activity Week, in the final week of term, gives students in various year groups opportunities to try different experiences. A workshop with the One Day Film School enabled students to put their filmmaking skills to the test.
In the morning, they learned about film history from the early days of film to the latest in special effects, about fight choreography, how to use a camera for filming and how to write a good script for a film with memorable characters.
Students then worked in groups to create silent (with music) films of up to two minutes, based on a classic narrative. Later in the day, there was an ‘Oscars’ ceremony when films were premiered and the judges (Young Film Academy representatives) announced who had won the awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Performance and Best Technical Achievement.
The winning film, titled ‘The Stolen Necklace’, will now be put forward for the 2025 10 Shot Film Awards which recognises filming excellence in more than 150 leading UK schools. The judging panel for those awards is headed by Robin Kinsey, vice president of marketing at Walt Disney Studios.
Not only was this an enjoyable day but it taught students certain skills they can use in other areas of life. Well done to all of our winners and thank you to The One Day Film School.
