Students look in the mirror

Year 12 Chemistry students took part in a silver mirror practical test as they explored the reaction between silver nitrate and glucose as part of British Science Week.

Known as the Tollens’ test, this is a qualitative laboratory test used to distinguish between an aldehyde and a ketone. The end result was a mirror-like coating forming on the inside of a flask.
