Students engage with community

Students in our Agroecology Club have been working hard over several sessions revamping the Monastery flower garden on the Worth estate as part of a community engagement project which will see them gift flowers to local charities and groups.

Agroecology Club is an activity option within our wide-ranging co-curricular programme. The students have created a ‘no dig’ garden, building a fence around it, learning about soil biology as they prepare the beds and using woodchip from our biomass on the estate. The carbon footprint of the garden is really small.

They now intend to grow flowers which would then be gifted to charities and groups in the community.

The group is asking the Worth community for donations of bulbs and tubers, such as Dalia, Gladioli, Alium and Begonia. Donations can be brought to school reception and marked for the attention of the Marketing department, who will pass them on to students in the group.

As well as being a great initiative, students in the group have learned a lot.
