St Mary’s Sixth girls have been showered with praise after giving elderly people in the local area a day to remember.
Last Sunday St Mary’s Sixth hosted a group of visitors in partnership with Befriended, a charity serving isolated, elderly people in Mid Sussex and one of the School’s partner charities.
The girls welcomed visitors into their House, providing them with entertainment, friendship, hospitality and refreshments. A bingo session and carols around the piano were particular highlights. Later in the day a small group of girls accompanied their visitors to Wakehurst to join them on the Glow Wild lantern trail, with Worth School providing transport for the outing.
Gail Millar, chief executive of Befriended, said: “Please accept our heartfelt thanks, joy and appreciation to all the girls from St Mary's House and Worth School for giving the older people from Befriended a fabulous afternoon.
“We really appreciated all of the time, thought, preparation and effort the girls put into providing a wonderful afternoon of entertainment, friendship, welcome and refreshments.”
Here are some lovely comments from some of our guests:
“I have had the best day ever, I loved chatting with the girls from Worth, they are so lovely, thoughtful and kind” – Gill
“I am so grateful to everyone who gave me the highlight of my Christmas. To be with young people who cared and took the time to chat to me, to be able to go to Glow Wild which was incredible, I will never forget it. Thank you”. – Doris
“What a special day today has been! I can’t believe at 94 I have been able to experience such a day. I hardly ever leave my house but today I went to a beautiful school, was spoilt by delightful young ladies who served us tea and sang to us, travelled on a coach then taken around a wonderful light show. I am so grateful.” – Eva
“Amazing day! I nearly didn’t come because of the awful weather but I am so glad I did as I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It was truly wonderful from beginning to end. The kindness and love shown to us by others is overwhelming. Thank you”
Charity, service and outreach are key values we instil in Worth students.
