Congratulations to Worth’s head of lacrosse David McColl who has been named in the Scotland squad for the World Indoor Box Lacrosse Championships in New York in September.
This is Mr McColl’s first Scotland call-up and he was picked for the squad following a selection process in Prague earlier this year when a pool of prospective players played six games in five days.
Mr McColl said: “I am ecstatic to be selected. It feels a bit surreal at 39 to be picked but I am really excited to be part of the performance squad and to be going to the world championships.
“I lost my granddad during Covid. He was the Scottish connection for me and it will be special to honour that part of my family. I now have a summer of hard training ahead of me to get in the best shape possible for the championships.”
Box lacrosse is an indoor version of lacrosse which is played mainly in North America but this year there will be a record number of 28 nations competing in the Men’s World Championships while, for the first time, 10 nations will compete in a women’s edition of the championships for the first time.
Under the direction of Mr McColl, who is a is a Level 2 coach and umpire, lacrosse at Worth has grown at a fast rate and the School now offers the sport to both boys and girls.
Mr McColl will be cycling from Battle in East Sussex to Isle of Mull this summer to help fund the trip. Details will be shared in due course.
