A special day for hockey players

Three of our young hockey players enjoyed a wonderful experience as they were special guests at a recent Great Britain international, meeting a number of the players and one Worth pupil bringing out with the match ball for the start of a game.

The day was arranged by Worth’s Head of Hockey, Mr Calum Giles, who represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games, winning 143 caps for England and Great Britain and scoring 110 international goals in a glittering career.

As VIP guests of sponsors Mizuno, Mr Giles arranged for three young hockey players to attend the Great Britain men and women matches at the Olympic Park earlier this month, and there was an added honour as Felix was asked to bring out the match ball for the men’s match against Spain.

The Worth pupils also got to have their pictures taken with Great Britain internationals Zach Wallace, Nick Bandurak and Biba Mills, plus Germany goalkeeper Felix Reuss.

Mr Giles, who has made a big impression on the hockey programme at Worth, said: “I wanted to offer some pupils the chance to have ‘that moment’ where hopefully in the future when they become internationals they will look back and say that is where it all started.”
