Congratulations to four pupils who were presented with awards this week as winners of this year’s independent science project.
For 12 weeks the Year 9 pupils were encouraged to carry out their own independent science project into something they found interesting. The project could be research-based or practical-based.
The projects were far ranging from blackholes and the solar system to how airliners take off to the effect of creatine and the materials in face masks. The pupils were scored on how scientific the project was, the use and relevance of diagrams, presentation, spelling, punctuation and grammar, and references.
The winners included a project on the Space Shuttle Atlantis; a pupil who had built her own candle carousel and investigated the effect of having different numbers of candles on the rotations per minute; an investigation into how dimples affect the flight of a golf ball; and a project which investigated how an airliner takes off, having completed some rigorous research and then carried out an investigation using paper aeroplanes.
Well done to the winners.
