Sailors impress at regatta

Worth School

Worth sailors finished third overall while one pairing claimed first place in class at the inaugural Schools Sailing Regatta hosted by Weir Wood Reservoir last weekend.

Moderate breezes and unfamiliar sailing conditions tested all the sailors in races one and two, while after lunch a heavy squall resulted in the abandonment of the final race in the series.

Of Worth’s four entrants, Theo sailed in the single-handed Topper class for the first time, showing some promising boat speed which earned him mid-fleet results in the largest of the fleets. In the double-handed RS Feva class, Archie helmed and secured an excellent win in the first race showing huge potential.

In the double-handed RS Quest class, Oscar and Olly showed great consistency by securing two wins and taking the overall class trophy, despite it being their first time in this boat.

This series of strong results gave Worth School third place in the overall competition and plenty to build on for the future. Congratulations to all sailors.

Sailing is offered at Worth through the co-curricular programme.
