A record-breaking Sports Day 2024

Worth School

With numerous records broken and tremendous spirit shown by all, our new-format annual Athletics Championships was an excellent occasion.

A full list of new records set is still to be published but among those broken at the K2 in Crawley last Friday were the Senior girls’ long jump and 1,500m, the Intermediate boys’ 200m and 400m plus the Junior boys’ 300m and 100m. With lots of fantastic performances too, the day showcased everything good about sport at Worth.

The event had a new format this year, with all students split into six new teams, with results counting towards the Worth Community Trophy at the end of the academic year. Among the benefits, the new format addresses the imbalance in the number of pupils in different year groups in Houses and offers greater opportunities for participation.

The first winners of Sports Day under the new format were Napier Nighthawks with 409 points from Barlow Bees with 363 and Cowdray Cavaliers with 354.

The Victor Ludorum award, for the boy of the meeting, went to Louis and the Victrix Ludorum, for the girl athlete of the meeting, was won by Gigi for a second successive year.

There was also a fun inter-House relay at the end of the day which was won by Chapman House.

Well done to all students who competed.
