As part of our careers programme, pupils in Years 7 and 8 attended an NHS Careers Day, an educational initiative designed to introduce school-aged children to the wide variety of roles available within the National Health Service.
These days aim to raise career aspirations, challenge stereotypes and highlight that the NHS employs more than 350 different professions, including roles in IT, engineering, administration, catering and maintenance, not just doctors and nurses.
Our Junior School pupils listened to a series of online discussions with people who work for the NHS which included question and answer sessions. They also took part in three offline workshops to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the subject, and were invited to take part into the ‘Step into the NHS’ competition where they researched a role in the NHS and created a job advertisement which can be entered into a national competition.
This was a highly informative day for our youngest pupils. As well as encouraging them to consider a career in healthcare, the workshops helped develop skills such as research, creativity and teamwork.
The careers team at Worth is headed by Mr Paul Harrison while our alumni society, Worth Society, offers additional careers support to students. Among the initiatives at Worth, each year we hold our own Careers Fair which brings together a range of professionals who talk to small groups of Year 12 students about their field of experience and expertise.
