These smiling children at the Farsee Korma Public School in Liberia enjoy a meal every day they attend school thanks to fundraising by the Worth community.
We have been raising funds for Mary’s Meals, which is one of the School’s main charities, since 2017 and our support makes a transformational difference.
In the last eight years, the Worth community has raised in excess of £60,000 for the Mary’s Meals ‘Sponsor a School’ programme, which has enabled us to support children at the Farsee School Public School every year since 2017, as well as sponsoring two schools in Zambia when our fundraising has allowed.
Mary’s Meals is a wonderful charity which currently provides meals to more than three million children in 16 of the poorest countries across the globe and their mission is to break the link between poverty and a lack of education, ensuring no child goes hungry in this world of plenty. By encouraging children to attend school and get an education, it gives them hope and a possible route out of poverty.
It costs £19.15 to feed a child for a whole school year and each year Worth raises enough money to fund a meal for every child every day they attend the Farsee Korma Public School. This is done through whole school events such as our annual carol service and Speech Day, plus smaller group fundraising initiatives.
Farsee Korma Principal H. Boimah Dakawah said: “The main change I see when the children have eaten their meal is that it makes them healthy and strong. A meal lightens their smiles, it makes learning effective and it makes them zealous to come to school.”
Below are some of the latest pictures we have been sent from the Farsee Korma Public School.
