Fri, Jun 25th, 2021
Worth School

The Perera Prize was presented to its first winner, Eden Cortesi-Hennell of St Mary’s House, by the Head Master last week.

The prize is in honour of former Head of Maths, Mr Gordon Perera, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in February 2018 and continued to work at Worth until his death in September 2020. The cup has been donated by the parents of one of Mr Perera’s former students at Worth and the inscription reads: “The Perera Prize for Most Improved Mathematician. In memory of Gordon Perera, Head of Maths, Worth School, whose love of maths and courage inspired many.”

Mr Doggett, Head of Mathematics, said: “Eden has shown great determination and effort in her approach to Maths during the course of the IGCSE. Although this is not a subject that she finds easy, she has worked hard to push herself to achieve the best possible result in each and every piece of work.”
