A former student’s journey from studying Photography at Worth to taking up a position working for Sky television will act as an inspiration to the current cohort of students.
Congratulations to Ollie De Havas who studied Photography at GCSE and A Level at Worth and is now ready to start a full-time position as a camera assistant working with Sky Sports, Sky News, Sky arts and entertainment shows.
Since leaving Worth in 2022, Ollie has been building up his portfolio working for Channel 4, helping to create a documentary for legendary American footballer Tom Brady and also covering AFC Wimbledon Football Club’s 2024-25 season, including working at their play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
Photography is a popular option choice at Worth. Head of Photography Mr John Everest said: “We are thrilled to have provided a platform for Ollie to explore his interest in video and film, naturally aligning this with his passion of sport. When you can get to this point with a pupil, it is a very special place and situation to be in.
“From there, everything he has achieved – the Channel 4 work, the Team Brady documentary, AFC Wimbledon – reflects so well on Ollie and the values he has developed through his experiences at Worth: an openness in service, the ability to connect with respect to others, and the humility to seek support and grow through challenges.
“A lot of his success post-Worth is largely down to Ollie’s commitment to courageously developing these skills independently, leading him to this wonderful new opportunity at Sky Sports.
“It is always really exciting to see students dive into photography and use it to explore and develop their own interests. Because our curriculum is skills-based and not tied to specific content, it gives pupils the freedom to shape their projects around what they are passionate about.
“We have seen many students grow creatively and go on to study and work in areas like fashion, commercial photography and architecture. Ollie’s success is another positive example of this and I hope it continues to inspire both current and future students.”
Ollie said: “I couldn’t recommend Photography enough. For me this was a huge stepping stone to get me to where I want to be. I’ve still got so much to learn but for me Photography built me the foundation of what I needed to know going into TV. I couldn’t be more thankful to Mr Everest and Mr Cheeseman for all of their work throughout my time at Worth.”
Ollie, who was 1st XI cricket captain at Worth, returned to the School earlier this year to create a film about cricket at Worth. You can watch that here.
