Prizewinning violinist Cristian Persinaru described the inaugural Worth Musician of the Year semi-final as "brilliant playing, brilliant singing". Worth Musician of the Year has been introduced by the Music department, removing the solo round from House Music to make it a competition in itself. Anyone in the school is free to enter with any style or instrument. At the semi-final in March 2019 four musicians were chosen to progress to the final in the Summer Term. The winner will receive a trophy and will get to perform at the Eve of Speech Day Concert.
There were some wonderful performances at the Informal Chamber Concert in March 2019. A range of ensembles and styles were performed during a 90-minute concert in the Whitehead Room. The evening began with the camerata, followed by the saxophone ensemble, percussion ensemble, the oboe group, Zoey on the xylophone, Worth a'cappella and the new Gospel Choir before concluding with three pieces from the Worth Jazz Band. The choir sang wonderfully at the School Carol Service in December 2018, led by new Director of Mr Lewis Brito-Babapulle. This was the culmination of a busy time for the Music department which included an Informal Soloists Concert, the Remembrace Sunday performance of Faure’s Requiem, a Choral Society Concert, a Chamber Ensemble Concert, Handel’s Messiah in the Abbey Church and the Worthians Carol Service (see separate gallery), plus Carols for the Community. Here are a few pictures from these events. Picutres by Simon Dack, Howard Griggs and Andrew McMillan.
The third annual Worthians Carol Service at St Patrick's Church in Soho Square, London, was another wonderful affair where the school choir, led by new Director of Music Mr Lewis Brito-Babapulle, performed wonderfully. Pictures by Howard Griggs.
