Students in Worth’s Senior Debating Society progressed to the next stage of English-Speaking Union MACE Competition after impressing in their first round debate last week.
This was Worth’s second external competition of the academic year, having progressed to the regional semi-finals of the Rotary Club Debating Competition a week earlier.
Six schools competed in the ESU first round at Roedean School with Worth debating in opposition to Ardingly College on the motion, ‘This House would build on the green belt’. This was not knockout competition with judges instead choosing the three schools who most impressed and Worth was put through along with Ardingly. The second round of the competition takes place in January.
Worth has a strong reputation for debating, with societies for Senior, Middle and Junior School students as well as an annual Inter-House Debating Competition which allows even more students to get involved with debating.
