Latinists dig into the past

As part of the Year 8 Latin course, the Classics department organised a fascinating day trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace at Chichester.

This historic site includes a vast, excavated villa with floor mosaics, recreated Roman style gardens and an onsite museum. The trip complemented their background study of Roman Britain and pupils also enjoyed an hour-long workshop on domestic life during which they handled Roman artefacts and experienced work in a Roman kitchen.

Following the trip, the pupils will now write a 1,000-word individual project, pretending to sell Fishbourne Roman Palace as Roman estate agents. Submissions will automatically be entered into Worth’s annual Year 8/9 Classics Essay Competition.

Latin is offered as part of the curriculum for Year 7 and 8 pupils at Worth.
