Jude to represent Great Britain
A Year 11 student has qualified to represent the Great Britain U20 team at the ITU Aquathlon World Championships at Almere in the Netherlands.
Jude Powell only competed in his first aquathlon (swim/run) just before lockdown when he attended the Frostbite Aquathlon at Littlehampton in early March which comprised a 500m swim and a 5K seafront run. Jude finished an excellent fourth overall and first junior man, despite being only 15 at the time. This result plus a 19.01 Parkrun at Tilgate, Crawley (the last before Parkruns were closed due to the pandemic) qualified him for the Great Britain U20 team to compete at Almere in September. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus the championships have been postponed until 2021 and Jude is excited to get some additional training under his belt and has started his open water swim training at Weir Wood Reservoir this past month.
When he competes Jude will be one of the youngest on the team and will have a further three years to compete in this age group which will hopefully mean he can get close to the sharp end of the race in future years.
Many congratulations Jude on this fantastic achievement.
