Worth was delighted to welcome back Dr Aric Sigman to talk to pupils and parents on a range of important topics as part of our PSHE programme.
Dr Sigman is a leading expert in his field, a keynote speaker, writer of medical journals and has advised the United Nations on child development. His talks at Worth just before the end of term covered the impact of vaping, alcohol and drug use, including legal highs.
In his talks to students, Dr Sigman gave details on the science behind potential addiction, provided information on the health impacts of vaping and substance use, as well as raising awareness of how online media campaigns may attract younger people to try vaping. Dr Sigman discussed with the pupils how they can manage potential peer pressure and for them to become more confident in making autonomous decisions.
In the parental talk in the evening, Dr Sigman guided parents on the presentations he gave to the students and how as parents they could provide practical steps to identify potential risks to their child and how to provide support in this. Dr Sigman also discussed the rise in nicotine pouches and how to promote positive lifestyles.
Mr Joseph Huntley, Head of PSHE, said: “It was a delight to welcome Dr Sigman back to Worth. His talks are insightful and engaging, providing our pupils and parents with an excellent insight into the dangers of vaping and substance use.”
The personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) curriculum at Worth offers a broad range of information, experiences and resources to draw upon for all year groups.
