Emma Wood is relishing the opportunity to play the highest level of hockey in America after signing her contract with the University of California, Davis, where she will play alongside her academic studies.
Emma, who left Worth in the summer of 2024, excelled at the School both at hockey and in her academic studies where she achieved three As in her A Levels. After a gap year, she will start at UC Davis next August.
For every sport other than basketball and football, Wednesday 13 November 2024 in America marked the initial signing date for student athletes ahead of starting their college courses in 2025.
UC Davis play D1 which is the highest standard of hockey in America, with college hockey being the top level of the sport in the States. As well as playing at that level, as a student athlete Emma will benefit from expert coaching, support and guidance with her academic studies and excellent careers advice.
Emma, who is looking to pursue a chemistry or bio-chemistry academic course, said: “It has been my dream to play hockey at such a high level and to be able to do that alongside academic studies, which are really important to me, is really great.”
After starting her club hockey at East Grinstead, Emma has played for fellow National League club Sevenoaks for the last two years, mainly for the 2nds but with a few games for the first team. She has thanked Worth’s Head of Hockey, double Olympian Mr Calum Giles, for helping her to develop her game at the School.
Emma said: “My last year of hockey at Worth under Calum Giles was really helpful. He provided great advice.”
