Historian and author Dr William Butler was our guest speaker at the Academic Scholars’ Society last week, delivering an excellent lecture to students about the use of data and statistics in the Second World War.
Dr Butler, who works for The National Archives, is a historian of the 19th and 20th-century British armed forces, particularly the British Army in 19th-century Ireland, and its role during the First and Second World Wars.
He works on a variety of projects, including the transfer of millions of military service records to The National Archives, and legacy work relating to the recent Great Escapes exhibition on prisoners of war and internees during the Second World War. His talk last Friday also covered aspects of that work.
Worth’s Academic Scholars’ Society is open to all students, not just scholars, and provides a wide range of experiences and challenges to build upon academic learning and success.

A huge range of opportunities for academic enrichment exist outside of the classroom at Worth.
