Worth’s Director of Music is hoping news of a former student winning two more Grammy Awards will act as an inspiration for the current cohort of students.
Oli Jacobs took his personal collection of Grammy Awards to five by winning two at the recent awards ceremony in Los Angeles. He was, in fact, nominated for four Grammys this year for his work with Kendrick Lamar and Sabrina Carpenter.
His first two Grammys came in 2023 for his work with Harry Styles, then in 2025 he won Best Engineered Album for Peter Grabriel’s i/o and was nominated for four other awards, including two working with Taylor Swift.
There is a long and successful tradition of music-making at Worth, where the motto is a balance of inclusion and excellence. Among the many opportunities for musicians at Worth is a flourishing choir, the Schola Cantorum, the smaller Chamber Choir for the most experienced singers, the school orchestra, various instrumental groups and a wealth of chamber groups. Popular music and music theatre also flourishes at Worth through our termly open-mic night ‘Live Lounge’, a rock band activity, and Music Technology offered at A Level.
In previous years, the school choir has sung at the Sistine Chapel and for a Papal Mass at St Peter’s Basilica, while every two years there is an overseas music tour, with the most recent being to Lake Garda in Italy in 2025.
While the current Director of Music, Mr Lewis Brito-Babapulle, joined many years after Oli Jacobs finished his Sixth Form studies at Worth in 2010, he is delighted with this achievement by a Worth music alumni and hopes current students will have taken note.
He said: “Everyone in the Music department offers their congratulations to Oli. This is a fabulous achievement and very inspiring to any young musician.
“There is a wonderful amount of enthusiasm within the pupil body to make music here and we are proud to support all students in their musical journey.
“We regularly have Worth musicians go on to study Music at university or conservatoire and then pursue a professional career in music.
“I am hoping our current students will be inspired by both Oli’s success and the many other success stories among our alumni, and that it will be drive them forward as they strive to reach their own musical targets.”
