Worth’s senior golf team performed admirably to finish 13th overall in the national finals of the Independent Schools Golf Association Team Matchplay Tournament.

The team of Yago, Friedrich and Juan had done remarkably well just to reach the national finals, beating Hurst, Sutton Valence and Eastbourne College along the way, and they flew the flag proudly for the School at Worsley Park in Manchester on Tuesday. In addition to finishing 13th overall, Yago was joint 12th in the individual standings from the 60 golfers taking part with a round of 73 (+2).

Director of Sport Mr David Burton said: “This scratch stroke play event (no handicap allowance) involves 20 of the top golfing schools in the country and for Worth to reach the finals in only the second year of competing in the event is a huge achievement. The experience was invaluable to this young team, who can be rightly proud of their efforts.”

Worth School has its own golf course on the campus and a growing interest in the sport is being reflected in the coaching opportunities being made available to pupils, whatever their level of ability from beginner to more experienced players. This includes the Performance Golf Squad, which offers a high-level of coaching in a link-up with a Tilgate Forest Golf Centre.
