A fascinating careers talk

Mon, Oct 31st, 2022
Worth School

Students were invited to a fascinating careers talk with marine biologist Helen Waghorne in the Spencer Building just before half term.

Growing up in Singapore, Helen fell in love with the wonders of the ocean at a young age and began diving as often as possible, earning her SSI Divemaster in the USA. She went on to complete an Integrated Masters (MSci) in Marine Biology at the University of Southampton and while at university she participated in internships, workshops and volunteer programmes in Ireland, Malaysia, Bermuda, the Maldives and the UK. She also worked in guest experience within the aquarium industry and, after graduating, moved into animal care as an aquarist.

It was a great opportunity for our students to hear Helen’s story and to find out more about careers in marine biology and conservation.

The Careers team at Worth, led by Careers Advisor Ms Alexa Tarsey, organises a broad range of speakers and events designed to put students in touch with the world of work and higher education.

Recently, the School hosted an overseas universities fair for students.
