Farwell House is a day house for boys aged 13-18 year old. When choosing your son’s House, every parent has a unique set of priorities and expectations. Our aim is to ensure that all students are given the best pastoral care to support their academic progress.

The House motto ‘Per Angusta ad Augusta’ translated to ‘Through difficulties to honours’ supports the idea that ‘Nothing worth having was ever achieved without effort’. But what does this mean in Farwell House? First and foremost, we teach the importance of respect for others, good manners, kindness and honesty. Through a careful balance of challenge and support, we help students develop their joy of learning and the confidence to try something new. In addition, we hope students learn to become independent in thought and action. Most importantly, students are encouraged to always give of their best and to believe that they can make a difference in the world.

Mr Bevan Soga (pictured) is Housemaster, taking up the position from the start of the 2023-24 academic year. Mr Soga was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, and attended Stellenbosch University to complete a Bachelor of Education degree in 2012. After teaching in both primary and secondary schools in South Africa for nearly four years he moved to the UK to take up the position of a Maths teacher at a school in Surrey where he spent more than four years in the pastoral system as both deputy and head of Years 7, 8, 10 and 11. He has had a passion for student wellbeing since a young age, having been involved in church youth groups and community volunteer groups.

Mr Matthew Wellman is Deputy Housemaster. The House also has a very experienced tutor team of Mr Kieran Elson and Mrs Sophie Belloul (Year 9), Mr Paul Harrison (Year 10), Mrs Sarah Glanville (Year 11), Mr William Warwick (Year 12), Mrs Maria Molinero and Mr Stephen Rodwell (Year 13) who help provide the high level of pastoral care that is synonymous with Farwell House.

Farwell House aims to continue the finest traditions of Abbot Farwell with great emphasis on the three Cs – care, compassion and commitment – as its underlying ethos.

Our aim is to work with home to encourage and educate your son as he travels his unique path. We look forward to working together to offer your son educational and pastoral excellence, together with the spiritual foundation of Catholic and Benedictine values.
