Eight is great for Worth

Worth School

This is a remarkable achievement! For an eighth year in succession, Worth has been named among the top schools in Britain for cricket.

Under the guidance of former professional cricketer and Level 4 coach Mr Raj Chaudhuri, Worth’s cricket programme for boys and girls is widely regarded to be outstanding, with numerous students going on to win district, county and regional representative honours.

In 2025, 1st XI captain George McLoughlin was taken on by the Surrey Academy while our U15A team won the Blackshaw Cup and the 1st XI reached the final of the Langdale Division Two Cup.

The Cricketer, the world’s oldest and best-selling cricket magazine, has included Worth on its 2026 list of 100 top schools for cricket. From a huge number of entries, the judges chose to include Worth for the quality of our coaching, our impressive facilities, a fixtures programme which is designed to test and stretch 1st XI players, plus how we make the sport available to both boys and girls.

The School runs its own cricket academy, with a strong ethos based on developing confidence through competence, supporting aspirational cricketers to achieve their goals in combination with an excellent academic education.

Academy cricketers benefit from regular sessions throughout the year with excellent facilities including indoor and outdoor nets, three bowling machines, a nursery in the Summer Term and video analysis capabilities.

In 2024, Worth fielded four girls’ only teams from U14 to 1st XI with the latter winning four out of five fixtures. Talented girls can and do also play alongside boys in our other teams up to and including 1st XI.

Former 1st XI cricketer Claudie Cooper now plays for Yorkshire CCC while Nikki Chaudhuri (who is now commentating on cricket for the BBC), went on to play for Worcestershire and Surrey, and Alice Grant played for Kent.

Master in Charge of Cricket Mr Chaudhuri said: “We are delighted to be included again. We work hard to make sure every player who is serious about their cricket gets access to high-level coaching and leaves Worth a far better player than when they joined.

“Our programme is based on the needs of the individual player relating to his or her stage of development and we are always delighted to see so many of our players go on to achieve success beyond the school.”

The Cricketer editor Huw Turbervill said: “Considering the quality of entries this year you should be very proud of your efforts.”

The Cricketer Schools Guide, supported by Durant Sports, is included as a prestigious supplement printed alongside the December issue of The Cricketer which is available from now. As well as appearing in print alongside the world’s No.1 cricket magazine, the guide will be made available on The Cricketer website at www.thecricketer.com
