The Middle School production of First Light was an incredibly moving and professional performance over three nights in February 2020. Based on true events, First Light was a highly emotional and gripping play which exposed the violent and barbaric treatment of soldiers who deserted in World War One and were shot at first light. “Amazing”, “absolutely outstanding” and “brilliantly acted” were just a few comments offered by theatre goers. The two ‘Cabaret’ evenings held in the Whitehead Room In January 2020 in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association were wonderful occasions. A fabulous show prepared by the Drama and Music departments included jazz, comedy, magic, West End favourites, a Mamma Mia medley and performances by both the Gospel Choir and Worth Concert Band. Both evenings were sell-outs, with guests also enjoying a three-course dinner. The evenings raised a substantial amount of money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Pictures by Sam Stephenson.
The Middle School Production of Blood Brothers in May 2019 was another excellent show, performed over two nights in the Performing Arts Centre. This was the play version which is slightly different to the musical, although still as exciting and entertaining. There were both comic and tragic moments, which ensured an evening full of laughter and tears. Pictures by Carla Mason-Roe.
The Inspire Theatre Company, which is made up of the Drama scholars from Years 7 to 13 and some other invited students who show a real passion for performance, presented 'Mary Poppins Jr' over three nights in March 2019, as well as a matinee performance for children from a local primary school. This was another fantastic production, with classic numbers such as 'Step in Time' and 'Spoonful of Sugar' proving tremendously entertaining. Pictures by Emma Duggan.
