Debating team wins regional final

Three members of the Worth Senior Debating Society are celebrating after winning the Regional Final of the Rotary Club Youth Debate competition.

Having won the first round in East Grinstead in November, Amy Ma, Gabriel Cairns Thomas and Freddie Bosshard represented the School at the Regional Final held in Effingham last Sunday.

All three were excellent in convincingly and eloquently defending the motion ‘Migrants – pushing the boats back?’ and it was a unanimous decision by the judges to declare Worth winners.

With no national final, the Worth trio have progressed as far as they can in this competition, so this is an outstanding achievement. Thank you to Meridian Rotary Club who proudly sponsored the Worth team and also congratulations to Head of English, Mrs Dawn Club, who has trained and prepared these young speakers for the competition.

These three students are also part of the team actively preparing for the Cambridge University Ethics Cup national final which is being held at University of St Andrews in Scotland on 31 May.

Well done to our students.
