Worth’s Senior Debating Society is through to the regional semi-finals of the Rotary Youth Speaks Debating Competition after impressing in the first round debate last week.
A team of three students competed at the Meridian Rotary competition in East Grinstead last Tuesday and performed sufficiently well to progress to the semi-finals in Guildford on 13 February.
Their motion was, ‘This House believes that inheritance tax should be abolished, viewing it as an unjust levy on the assets of the deceased and a barrier to family financial security’.
Worth also had an Intermediate team competing on the night and although they did not progress they performed well.
Well done to all students who represented the School.
This was Worth’s first external competition of the year. Later today, a Worth team will represent the School in the English-Speaking Union MACE Competition, then on Friday our annual Inter-House Debating final takes place.
