Debating team into semi-finals

Worth’s Debating Society is celebrating another success after the seniors claimed a place in the district semi-final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition.

Having progressed to the second round of the English-Speaking Union MACE competition 24 hours earlier, another team of seniors represented the School in the first round of the Rotary Youth Speaks Meridian competition at St Swithun’s Church in East Grinstead last Tuesday.

The students spoke superbly to go through to the next stage in January. Head of English Mrs Dawn Clubb, who leads debating at Worth, said: “They were very good and deserved to win. They were the best speakers on the night.”

A team of juniors took part in the ‘Intermediate’ competition and, although they did not go through to the semi-finals, they spoke well and can be proud of how they performed.

Worth’s Senior Debating Society is also looking forward to taking part in the Oxford Schools’ and Cambridge Schools’ competitions.
