Worth’s Senior Debating Society is celebrating again after both its teams won against international schools in China in the Elite International Debating Competition.
The School entered two teams into this online competition that operates around the world. This was a new format for our students who have previously been preparing parliamentary debates. However, both teams embraced the challenge and performed superbly to win their matches and progress to the next round of the competition this coming weekend.
This week also saw the Senior Debating Society compete in the regional finals of the Mace competition run by the English-Speaking Union. Six schools competed in this round with only one team going through to the finals. Worth, having beaten Sevenoaks School in the first round, was not able to progress this time but the judge was very impressed with our team, particularly their expression and delivery. Head of English, Mrs Dawn Clubb, said: “The judge could not believe this was only our second competition with the English-Speaking Union and she was very encouraging towards the team and their chances to come back even stronger next year.”
The Debating Society is one of the many academic enrichment and co-curricular opportunities available at Worth. To find out more click here.
