Celebrating World Book Day 2024

Fri, Mar 8th, 2024
Worth School

Worth celebrated World Book Day with a number of initiatives including a scavenger hunt and a ‘book tasting bistro’.

World Book Day, which was first held in 1997, is an annual celebration in more than 100 countries across the world promoting reading and writing.

Junior School pupils in Austin House were asked to bring in their favourite book or the book they are currently reading. Then at lunchtime they took part in a scavenger hunt around campus, themed on books, which was organised by Year 12 IB English students.

Also, staff from the English department and library ran a ‘book tasting bistro’ in the library, acting as waiters as they took orders for books which they brought to the table to read on silver platters. Pupils were also served with hot chocolate.

In addition, all pupils were encouraged to take part in a Book Day reading quiz while posters were displayed in the library showing what pupils from different year groups are currently reading.

At Worth we recognise the importance of reading and this was a good opportunity to reinforce messages promoted throughout the academic year.
