Students were welcomed back to Worth today with a values-centred programme of activities which allows them to settle into the new academic year before the busyness of the timetable begins in earnest next week.
Our two welcome days – today and tomorrow – are an opportunity to spend time building and reinforcing friendships, while also learning about the importance of community and belonging.
This is traditionally how we begin a new academic year at Worth and we believe this approach allows students to settle back into school life quicker after the summer break and focus better on academic lessons when they begin.
This morning the whole school gathered in the Abbey Church for a ‘Welcome Worship’. The programme for today and tomorrow also includes team building activities, retreats, tutor group activities, sports sessions and community breakfasts.
Director of Mission Mr Daniel Harris, who organises the programme, said: “These days are the trail head of our journey along the Worth Way at the beginning of the school year.
“What is the Worth Way? It is a phrase we have adopted to help us with our orientation and the direction of travel that our school values point us in.
“Our school values are rooted in our Benedictine and Catholic ethos and they point us in the direction of the person of Christ. The Worth Way phrase is one to help us all, staff and pupils, to find our own place and a direction to be pointing no matter where we may be on faiths journey.”
The new school year also marks the arrival of our new Head, Mr Ben Pennington, who will be speaking at the opening assembly of the year tomorrow morning.
