Congratulations to members of the Senior Debating Society who represented Worth successfully in the first round of the English-Speaking Union Debating Competition.
The team spoke superbly as they progressed to the second round of the competition by virtue of beating Uckfield School in a match held online.
Worth debated in the role of the government in the following motion: This house would ban the use of digital manipulation in advertising including social medial ad content.
Nicholas took the role of Prime Minister and laid out our team’s position on the motion, clearly defining the motion and going on explain the problems with digitising manipulation in advertising and its effects on mental health, particularly of young people.
Simon spoke confidently as our second speaker, clearly laying out a further economic argument in favour of the motion and thoroughly supporting his points. Daniel brought the team’s message to a clear and focused close, using both humour and excellent examples to make clear the government's position one final time.
Declaring Worth as winners, the judge for the night gave our team excellent feedback.
Well done boys.
The Debating Society is just one of the many societies, clubs and activities we offer at Worth.
