Former Worth student Tom Hicks has won a Guinness World Record! In our latest ‘Alumni in the News’ feature, Tom tells us the story behind a record he shares with more than a few others.
Tom, who was in Butler and left in 2013, has been declared a Guinness World Record holder, along with everyone else that ran last year’s virtual London Marathon!
He explained: “Last year I completed 26.2 miles while dragging my training tyre as part of the London Marathon. Due to the pandemic the event went virtual and so everyone who completed the 26.2 miles is a world record holder as part of the world's largest ever number of people to complete a virtual marathon. I took part in the race in aid of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and as a bit of spice to my usual North Pole training. It may not be my own world record, but I’m taking it!”
Tom is currently training for an expedition to the North Pole for the David Shepherd Foundation – something he has dreamed of doing since he was eight. The trip has been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic but he hopes to go to the North Pole in 2022.
