A chance to play lacrosse

Worth School

Pupils in Years 7 and 8 were given the opportunity to play lacrosse, many for the first time, as part of our Worth Community Trophy programme and it looks like they had fun.

Lacrosse at Worth is growing at a fast rate under the guidance of Scotland international Mr David McColl, a Level 2 coach and umpire who has coached on the England Lacrosse talent pathway and who is the lead for development at SEWLA (South East Women’s Lacrosse Association).

This year our 1st team girls competed at the national schools’ lacrosse championships for the first time in March, as our additional photographs show. In the last year, a boys’ team played its first fixture and we have also fielded a mixed lacrosse team.

Last week pupils Austin House – our Junior House – were introduced to the sport in a games session. The Worth Community Trophy was introduced last year as a new approach to internal sport at Worth. By allocating all pupils in the School to one of six teams, rather than competing in Houses, it addresses the imbalance in the number of pupils in different year groups in Houses and offers greater opportunities for participation.
