Students enjoy powerful play

Students in Year Groups 9, 10 and 12 have enjoyed a powerful play performed by a visiting theatre company.

RISE Theatre CIC is a professional Christian theatre company with a passion for delivering exciting, original, transformative plays. The company works predominantly with schools and churches.

At Worth RISE have been performing the play ‘Romero – Heartbeat of El Salvador’ about the life of Oscar Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador who was assassinated in 1980 as he was celebrating Mass. Students were asked to think about messages in the play and the decisions they would make if they were in the position of someone like Oscar Romero.

As well as performances for Worth students, the play was performed with puppets for visiting primary schools yesterday and there was a technical workshop for drama students today (pictures are on this page). Tomorrow morning there will be a further school performance for Years 7 and 8 plus parents, governors and Worthians, prior to Family Mass in the Abbey Church at 11am.

Tomorrow evening there will be a public performance of the play, for which tickets are on sale priced at £10 for adults (including one free drink) and £5 for children. They are available by emailing or online at (this will incur a booking fee). All proceeds from the evening performance will go towards Irundu parish in Uganda, Worth’s parish partner.
