Head Master to sleep out for charity – please support him

Head Master Mr Stuart McPherson will be grabbing a sleeping bag and braving the cold for a night to help fight the growing problem of homelessness.

Mr McPherson will be swapping a warm bed for a night under the stars to raise money for the Cardinal Hume Centre, which has been helping people to overcome poverty and the threat of homelessness for more than 30 years.

The Cardinal Hume Centre’s 2018 Sleepout will take place in the courtyard at the stunning Royal Academy of Arts in Westminster on Tuesday 6th November. Mr McPherson will join business and community leaders from throughout London and the South East in sleeping rough to raise valuable funds as well as highlighting a growing issue.

Two years Mr McPherson took part in the last Cardinal Hume Centre Sleepout at Lord’s Cricket Ground and raised an amazing £1,800. He is hoping to beat that figure in 2018.

Based in Westminster, The Cardinal Hume Centre provides activities for children and families in need to learn and play together; expert advice for vulnerable and isolated people; and safe accommodation with round-the-clock support for homeless young people.

Last year 1,200 people went to the Centre for help and the money raised through this fantastic event means so much:

  • £12 can pay for a young person to travel to college for a week
  • £25 can pay for a kitchen ‘starter pack’ so that a young homeless person can learn to cook
  • £50 can pay for bedding and towels for when they move into their new room

Although one night does not compare to the reality faced by the 4,700 people in the UK who bed down on our streets on any given night, this event offers a small glimpse of some of the challenges they face as well as contributing towards the start of a better life for the people the Centre helps. It will not be a comfortable night for those taking part but it will be a meaningful one and any help you can give to this in supporting Mr McPherson would be greatly appreciated.

He said: “The Cardinal Hume Centre does incredible work helping rough sleepers and other people who have fallen on hard times in London and continues to work with the Church to lobby the Government to do all it can to fight the growing problem of homelessness in modern Britain. As one of the many people joining the Sleepout in the Royal Academy courtyard next month I hope to help them raise a significant amount of money this year towards their important work. I hope you will consider supporting my effort.”
