Fathers and sons cricket match is great family fun
St Bede's and Gervase enjoyed a friendly 'Fathers and Sons' cricket match in the glorious sunshine on Sunday, supported by lively and interactive picnicking spectators.
It was very much a family event, with each team composed of an eclectic mix of current boys (across all age groups), old boys, dads and house staff. Cricket prowess was much in evidence even though, in the case of some players, dormant skills were resurrected for the afternoon!
Gervase batted first and, despite losing some wickets to the nifty Bede's bowlers, racked up a total of 198 runs. As the excitement mounted, Bede's put in a sterling performance, scoring 161 runs, but it was not quite enough to beat Gervase's impressive tally.
The match was played in a competitive but friendly spirit and the day included a barbecue and cakes. Spectators and participants alike enjoyed the day thoroughly and are already looking forward to next year's rematch. Thanks go to the Friends of Worth and the Housemasters for making it a special day.
