St Mary’s is home to almost 90 boarding girls and is run by Housemistress, Mrs Rebecca Steinebach, who teaches German and French. The House also has two Deputy Housemistresses, Miss Ainhoa Novillo Cruces, who teaches Spanish, and Miss Jo Barnes, who teaches Games and Biology.
We also have two Boarding Tutors, Miss Lorraine Pickering, Head of English, and Mrs Natalie Lynch, Head of Drama. Our house Chaplain is Br David Jarmy and our Matrons are Mrs Nikki Webb and Mrs Jayne Summerfield.
St Mary's has a strong, friendly, family atmosphere. The girls feel a sense of belonging and they enjoy living in a community founded on mutual respect and co-operation. There is always something going on and someone to talk to in St Mary’s, including a range of evening and weekend activities.
St Mary’s girls learn how to use silence and how to listen: there is a distinctive, supportive atmosphere across all year groups and St Mary’s girls have a spiritual confidence and dignity that gives them a distinctive advantage in life. They know who they are and have great respect for each other, founded in our strong Benedictine ethos of community, worship, hospitality and service. Through early leadership opportunities, many of our girls go on to hold prefect positions in their final year. Our girls excel both on the sports field and in the classroom, and aim to give their best in whatever they are doing in preparation for the exciting challenges they will encounter in their future lives. We also won the House Music competition last year – the first time a girls’ house had held the title since girls joined Worth in 2009.
St Mary’s has now moved into new accommodation offering excellent facilities for the girls, with the majority of rooms having en suite bathrooms. There is a new study area downstairs and a wonderfully spacious common room area for the girls to socialise in.
